The York County and Newport News Professional Firefighters have already made their pick in the 96th District – Democrat Troy Farlow. This is an unprecedented move, given that Virginia’s primary date has yet to pass and his opponent is still unknown. Three Republicans will be competing to be the nominee in a June 9th Firehouse primary. Speaking of Farlow’s nomination, the President of the York County Professional Firefighters, Don Dinse, said this:
“We felt compelled to endorse Troy because we strongly believe that he is the best candidate for this seat. Troy understands the importance of our work, and will help fight for the essential legislation which protects our Firefighters and other First Responders. It is essential that we elect someone who understands the value of these services to our communities.”
A native Virginian, Farlow was born and raised on the Eastern Shore. After a decade of working in finance and business, he returned to Virginia where he met and married his wife, started his own small business, and settled down in Williamsburg. Speaking of his endorsement, Farlow said this:
“I am honored to have the support of such outstanding organizations, which are so essential to our community and the safety of our families. I decided to run for this seat, because I thought it was time for our community to have strong independent leadership – leadership which preaches problem solving, not ideology. The support of organizations like these continues to reaffirm why I am running for this seat.”
Newport News Professional Firefighters president Jim Diego echoed those statements saying they were “thrilled to have the opportunity to endorse such a qualified candidate.”
The General Election will be held on November 6th 2007.
