The District

The House of Delegates 96th District stretches from Toano and Norge in its northern section to Tabb and a portion of Newport News on its southern boundary, and from the shores of the York River to the Chickahominy River on its western border. It is composed of ten precincts in York County, six precincts in James City County, and the Saunders precinct in Newport News.

Nestled in the heart of the Virginia’s Historic Triangle, the 96th contains Yorktown where our nation’s independence was won; and, is adjacent to Williamsburg, the colonial capitol of Virginia, and Jamestown, the first permanent colony in America.

The district is an essential part of the Lower Peninsula’s wealth of history and natural beauty. This thriving community is home to many military installations such as the Naval Weapons Station, Camp Peary, Cheatham Annex, and the Yorktown Coastguard Station.

The community’s prosperity is reflected in such private enterprises as the oil refinery at Goodwin Neck (Giant Yorktown, Inc.) and the Virginia Dominion Power generation plant along with many other small, medium and large-size businesses in James City County and lower York County.

The numerous waterways and green spaces allow residents and tourists to enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility that remains a hallmark of Virginian genteel life.
